This year's Women Build home will be built and sold to Jena Smith. Being a part of the Women Build project is a tremendous opportunity for women to empower women. Jena is an independent woman who is a tremendous role model for her three children and the community. Jena is the first veteran to partner with Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity and the Homeownership Program.

Jena joined the military with the plan to move her family, however, God had other plans. For the past 5 years, Jena has undergone multiple surgeries and has many more ahead of her. After receiving an honorable discharge from the military Jena began looking into a safe stable home for her and her children. The family currently rents a home with all of the bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Stairs are very difficult for Jena and she has had to modify her rental home to accommodate a bedroom on the 1st floor as well as find ways to navigate door and bathtub entry.

Jena has experienced her rent increasing every year; this is challenging as she is on a fixed income. Purchasing an affordable home that meets her physical needs is a dream she cannot wait to fulfill. We look forward to partnering with Jena on building her home in 2021!

In Support of Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity

Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
